Window and door support for hail-damage restoration projects

Hail can affect several parts of a window or door assembly at the same property. A useful restoration scope separates the damaged component, the opening and the required repair or replacement path.
Name the damaged component accurately
A “damaged window” may refer to broken or failed insulating glass, damaged glazing stops, a marked sash or frame, torn screen mesh, bent screen frames, exterior aluminum capping or operating hardware. Each component follows a different measurement and sourcing path.
Pitbull reviews hail-related damage to window and door components and can support restoration companies, contractors and property managers.
Document every opening consistently
Photograph the full elevation, the complete opening and close details of the damage. Record the property address, elevation, floor or unit, room and opening number. Include visible labels or profile details where available.
- Wide photo showing opening location
- Full product photo
- Close damage photo with scale
- Glass, screen, vinyl and capping noted separately
- Operation and water-management concerns
- Work-order number and approval contact
Determine whether repair is technically suitable
A compatible component repair depends on profile, dimensions, colour, condition and part availability. Cracks, punctures or damage near structural or weather-sealing areas require careful review.
Glass-only replacement may be possible when the surrounding sash and frame remain suitable. Complete replacement may be considered when damage or existing condition makes a component-level repair inappropriate.
Coordinate exterior-only assessment
Some hail assessments can be completed from the exterior without the homeowner entering the appointment workflow. Access, gates, pets, elevations and ladder requirements should still be confirmed.
The restoration partner should identify who communicates findings, approves changes and receives the estimate. Homeowners should not receive conflicting instructions from several companies.
Build a scope that supports invoicing and closeout
For each address, connect the approved work-order number, photographs, completed opening list and any approved change. If a partner requires an OP or purchase-order reference on invoices, record it before billing; partners that do not require one should not have unnecessary fields added.
Closeout photographs and exception notes help distinguish completed repairs from inaccessible, deferred or replacement-required openings.
